Shortage of teachers behind 30 Haryana govt schools showing 0% results

As many as 30 government schools in Haryana witnessed 0% results in the state board exams that were conducted in March 2017.

Not even a single student from these schools could clear the examination, raising concerns on quality of education being given to students in these government-run schools.

A report prepared by Board of Secondary Education Haryana (BSEH) says that while 28 schools witnessed 0% results in Class 10, two schools had this dubious distinction in Class 12.

Four schools each in Mewat, Jind, Bhiwani and Palwal districts, and two schools each in Ambala, Hisar, Karnal and Yamunanagar failed to produce even a single successful candidate.

The authorities blamed an acute shortage of teachers behind the poor results. “It would be wrong to compare Mewat with cities such as Gurgaon and Faridabad where they have teachers in surplus. In Mewat, one teacher has to teach in three schools to beat the shortage,” said Dinesh Kumar Sharma, district education officer (DEO) of Mewat.

At the government high school in Karnal’s Moond village, there is no teacher for English or Science. All Class-10 students failed here.

The government high school in Jind’s Seela Kheri village has been giving abysmally poor results consistently for the past three years. None of the 20 students who appeared in Class-10 exams this year could make a cut. The villagers said they received a rude shock recently when more teachers were transferred from the school, rather than making new appointments.

This year, almost 35% students failed in Class 12 and 50% students failed in Class 10 board exams in Haryana.
