Wildlife and nature enthusiasts from across the world will again get a chance to test their skills at the second edition of the Salim Ali Nature Quiz on Sunday.
Wildlife and nature enthusiasts from across the world will again get a chance to test their skills at the second edition of the Salim Ali Nature Quiz on Sunday. The quiz — that will be held online for an hour starting 5pm — will be open to all, with no pre-registration required. An initiative of the DelhiBird Foundation, the quiz can have up to 1,000 participants.

From a pair of spotting scope (a small portable high-power telescope), the grand prize, to a holiday at a resort in Dehradun, to coffee table books, harness, mugs, flasks, pens, pocket guides to subscriptions from Sanctuary Asia, the first 50 winners will get various prizes.
The event is named after renowned ornithologist Salim Ali, who is also known as the Birdman of India.
DelhiBird is one of the oldest birding clubs based in Delhi with around 75,000 members across the world. The foundation has been organising nature quizzes every year since 1999. Until last year, the quizzes were held outdoors. The first online edition of the quiz, in which 1,200 people participated, was launched this July keeping in view the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This quiz is a family event and everyone from a family can participate under one entry. There is no pre-registration and there is no age bar. From children to the elderly, everyone in a family can join in and test their skills. In order to participate, enthusiasts can just log in real time on Zoom or Facebook (links given below) where the quiz will be streamed live,” said Nikhil Devesar, founder, DelhiBird.
The rules will be displayed once participants log in. There will be multiple choices given for each question and participants will be given 20 seconds to select the right answer, he said.
“The faster you guess, the more points you get. There will be a total of five rounds with 10 questions each. The entire exercise will be transparent and take place real time. The winners will be announced real time. We will be sending the goodies to the winners via courier,” said Devasar.
A three-member team from the club will be coordinating the quiz.
Bikram Grewal, a Delhi-based ornithologist and author, who will be the quizmaster, said, “This time the quiz will also have a section based on the great birdman Salim Ali. We have formalised the quiz with a greater variety of questions that revolve around all kinds of creatures including birds, mammals, trees, reptiles, conservationists, flora and fauna, among others.”
To join the quiz, participants can log in at Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82482881236 or to zoom.us.
The quiz will be streamed live at the Facebook pages including @delhibird - The Indian Bird Network @earlybirdindia, @ZEISSNatureIndia, @sanctuaryasiapage, @wwfindia, @WCTIndia, @DeccanBirders, @delhibirdfoundation
