The mother alleged that although she approached the police soon after the incident, they refused to file a complaint. It was only after she staged a protest at the police station with local women rights groups that they relented.

Police have booked a 55-year-old man for biting a teenage girl’s face during an alleged rape attempt at Bahu Akbarpur village in Haryana’s Rohtak district earlier this week.

Sources said that although the incident occurred on Wednesday morning, a case was registered only on Saturday after local women rights activists protested in front of the Sadar police station.

According to the complaint, the accused – identified as Sukhbir Singh – had entered the 14-year-old girl’s house while her mother was out working in the fields. When she resisted his advances, he allegedly bit her repeatedly – causing intense bleeding.

The girl’s mother said that she returned home around then, only to catch Singh in the act of disrobing the teenager. “He fled as soon as he saw me,” she said.

Police have lodged a case against Singh under Sections 376 (sexual assault), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
