Rahul Gandhi being punished for...: Jairam Ramesh's 'new India' dig
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said Rahul Gandhi will exercise his right to appeal against the court order. In ‘new India’, CBI, ED, FIR, police are unleashed on those who raise their voice, Jairam Ramesh said.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is being punished for speaking the truth and raising his voice against the 'dictator', Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said after a Surat court convicted Rahul Gandhi for his 2019 comment where he wondered how come 'all thieves have Modi surname'. The court gave two-year's sentence to Rahul Gandhi, which has been suspended for 30 days, as the Congress MP prepares to appeal against the order. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said it was expected as the judges of the case were being changed in the case frequently.

The court order became a rallying point for the opposition leaders as two non-Congress chief ministers Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal and Jharkhand's Hemant Soren protested against the verdict.
Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said the conviction is excessive and will have far-reaching consequences. "This non-stop targetting of opposition leaders is condemnable and it won't silence the voices who speak for people and refuse to be ji-huzoor of the government," Priyanka Chaturvedi said.
