Amid the ongoing opposition protests over the Adani-Hindenburg row, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to do “his best to avert a discussion in the Parliament”. Demanding a discussion, Gandhi asserted that the “country must know what power is behind the billionaire businessman (Adani)”.

“Modi ji will do his best to avert a discussion on Adani ji in Parliament. There is a reason for it and you know that. I want a discussion on the Adani issue and the truth should come out,” the Congress MP told the media on Monday, as quoted by the news agency PTI.

“…The lakhs and crores of corruption that has taken place should come out. The country should know what is the power behind Adani,” he added.

Gandhi continued slamming the Centre stating, “For a number of years, I have been talking about the government and 'Hum do, Humare do'. The government does not want and is scared of a discussion in Parliament on Adani ji.”

Earlier in the day, Congress leaders and workers took to the streets to stage nationwide protests in front of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) offices and State Bank of India (SBI) branches, demanding an 'impartial investigation' under the supervision of the Supreme Court or a joint parliamentary committee to probe the financial fraud allegations against the Adani Group - which have forced the Gautam Adani-led group to lose tens of billions in market value. In several videos circulated on social media, protesters can be seen holding placards and climbing over barricades set up by police.

According to the opposition, the meltdown in Adani Group shares is a “scam that involves common people's money as public sector LIC and SBI have invested in them.”

Meanwhile, the Parliament session also witnessed a massive ruckus and adjournment till 11 am on Tuesday following repeated disruptions by the opposition.
