PM Narendra Modi gifts projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore to Varanasi
The PM’s visit to his parliamentary constituency comes six months after the BJP won a landslide victory in the assembly elections.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted on Friday projects worth more than Rs 1,000 crore to his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, and flagged off the Mahamana Express to Vadodara at an event organised at a newly-constructed trade centre and crafts museum.
The PM’s visit to his parliamentary constituency comes six months after the BJP won a landslide victory in the assembly elections. During campaigning for the polls, he held three back-to-back road shows in Varanasi.
Modi, Union textile minister Smriti Irani, governor Ram Naik and chief minister Yogi Adityanath took a round the trade facilitation centre and crafts museum, named after Deendayal Upadhyaya, the BJP’s ideolague.
Modi dedicated projects woth Rs 595 crore, including the centre, to the nation.
He also dedicated two bridges — Baluaa Ghat and Samane Ghat – that together cost Rs 189 crore, a water ambulance facility and 14 other projects, including power sub-stations.
Modi distributed solar lamps, tool kits and study material to children of weavers.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh, especially Varanasi, is known as a hub of handicrafts, mainly Banarasi sarees and brocade, handmade carpets and stoles. Craftsmen also make wooden toys, soft stone artefacts and black pottery.
The centre will act as a common platform for weavers, whole sellers, craftsmen and e-market platform owners and is expected to help in increasing their income.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation of developmental projects worth over over Rs 400 crore. The projects include a sewage treatment plant and an addition to the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir worth Rs 13 crore, a scheme to provide sewer connection and potable water connection to over 52 houses and beautification of seven major parks.
Modi released a postage stamp on Ramayan at the Tulsi Manas Mandir. In the evening, he offered prayers at the Durga temple in Durga Kund here. The PM will stay overnight here.
On September 23, he will inaugurate a livestock heath fair at Shahanshahpur village in his parliamentary constituency. He will also attend a sanitation programme in the village.
