Congress leader Jairam Ramesh slammed the BJP government over the suspension of opposition MPs saying the “atrocities of ‘namocracy’ are coming to light in the new Parliament”. “The opposition is being completely decimated so that dangerous bills can be passed without any meaningful debate. This is also happening so that the BJP MPs who got the two accused admitted into the Lok Sabha on December 13 are clean,” he wrote on X.

Congress leader Manish Tiwari hit out over the suspension of 141 MPs from both the Houses saying, "Parliament has been totally delegitimised. This is to lay the framework for passing the most draconian laws in Parliament."

On the suspension of 49 Opposition MPs from Lok Sabha, including his own, Danish Ali said, “It is strange that the Speaker says that we are being suspended as we have violated the Parliamentary decorum. How does asking questions to the government qualify as a violation of parliamentary decorum? It wasn't violated when abuses were hurled in the House, that MP was neither suspended nor was any action taken against him. No action was taken against the BJP on whose pass the attackers entered the House. PM and HM don't make any statements. I don't understand when did asking questions to the government qualify to be a violation?”

Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav who was suspended from the House among 48 others slammed the Centre saying it is “ultimately the failure of the government.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who was suspended from the Lok Sabha today, said, “It is clear that they want an Opposition-mukt Lok Sabha and they will do something similar in Rajya Sabha. At this point, unfortunately, we have to start writing obituaries for Parliamentary democracy in India.” He added, “Today, in solidarity with my colleagues, I too joined the protest and everybody who was present has been suspended for the rest of the session which means they want to pass their Bills without any discussion. I think it is a betrayal of Parliamentary democracy.”

Lok Sabha MP Farooq Abdullah suspended for the remainder of the Winter session of Parliament. Speaking to the media, he questioned, “Who does the Police come under? What would have happened if he (Union Home Minister) had made a statement in Parliament on the incident (security breach)?”
