Pahalgam attack news live updates: MEA slams OIC for refusing to recognise Pakistan's role in Pahalgam attack

Randhir Jaiswal, official spokesperson of India's foreign ministry, responded to a statement issued by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in New York, calling it absurd that they refused to recognise Pakistan's involvement in the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.

“The OIC statement, issued at the behest of Pakistan, is absurd in refusing to recognise the facts of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages. This is yet another attempt by Pakistan, a country that has long engaged in cross-border terrorism, to manipulate and misguide the OIC Group to issue a self-serving statement. We reject the OIC’s interference on matters that are internal to India,” the MEA spokesperson said.

“In 2019, when Pakistan was not even a member of the Security Council, it was China which tried to bring this agenda item for a discussion, similar to what Pakistan has done here. It failed then, and that was after Article 370 was abrogated. Yet, a permanent member could not succeed. So, the Chinese and Pakistani relationship is well-known to the world and people quickly understand,” he added.

Pahalgam attack news live updates: Owaisi calls for strong action against perpetrators of attack

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has called for strong action against those responsible for the "cowardly Pahalgam attack", saying it has hurt tourism in Kashmir.

Owaisi said, "The Pahalgam attack has also affected tourism in Kashmir, which is why we are asking for strict action against the people behind it. We had raised this point during the all-party meeting as well."

He also spoke about the pain caused by the attack, explaining how tourists were targeted based on their religion, something he strongly condemns.

“It was a cowardly act. We saw how terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 tourists. What’s even more upsetting is that they separated children and women, and asked the men to say a religious prayer. Those who couldn’t recite it were killed. This is very painful. I have always stood against such attacks and I will continue to do so,” he said.
