As India celebrates its 70th Independence Day, Google commemorated Jawaharlal Nehru’s historic midnight speech “Tryst with Destiny”.
Google Doodle on 70th Independence Day.
Monday’s doodle depicts Nehru’s speech in the Parliament House before the Indian Constituent Assembly.
“Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom,” Nehru had said in the speech in what was the first voice of independent India.
The doodle has 1947 written at the bottom of the Parliament House to mark the year of India’s independence.
Last year, Google had portrayed Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March with a doodle to mark Independence Day.
For Google, it has become a usual practice to produce theme-based doodles on any important day.
