Mrs Universe contestant assaulted by ‘land-grabbers’ in Assam’s Guwahati
At least 25 men squatted on a plot of land belonging to Kristi’s father next to her residence in central Guwahati.
A group of men allegedly abused and assaulted a Mrs Universe 2017 contestant following a bid to grab a plot of land beside her house in Assam’s Guwahati, police said on Tuesday.

Kristi Das, who received the highest e-vote during the pageant, sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital. She lodged a complaint against two people, who had allegedly instigated the attack.
At least 25 men squatted on a plot of land belonging to Kristi’s father Parimal Das next to her residence near Mizoram House in central Guwahati on Monday. Das is a former vice chairperson of Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority.

The men started hurling abuses when Kristi objected to their occupying the piece of private land. The group left but returned early on Tuesday morning and allegedly attacked the model with blunt weapons.
“She filed a complaint against two people at the Bhangagarh police station. Necessary action will be taken when we catch them,” Mohneesh Mishra, deputy commissioner of police for Guwahati East, told the Hindustan Times.
The local police said the case has been registered under various acts, including land-grabbing.
“We went to the trouble site today (Tuesday) morning after getting information that some people were trying to create law and order problem. But there was no one when our team reached the spot,” a police officer said.
The police also said a medical test was done on the complainant.
