Minor gang-raped by 7, including 5 juveniles, in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa
One of the five juveniles involved in the incident was apprehended and sent to remand home while the rape survivor was sent for medical tests, police said.
Police on Friday lodged an FIR against seven persons including five juveniles for allegedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl in her village, about nine kilometres from Chaibasa in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
One of the five juveniles involved in the incident was apprehended and sent to remand home while the rape survivor was sent for medical tests, police said. The incident, which took place on July 26, came to light on Thursday after the girl’s family approached the police.
“We have lodged FIR under the relevant sections against two adults and five juveniles after preliminary investigation confirmed the heinous crime. We apprehended an accused juvenile on Thursday and based on his statement we succeeded in identifying others. The girl has been sent for medical tests today while the juvenile has been sent to the remand home,” said Digvijay Singh, officer-in-charge, Chaibasa muffasil police station.
Singh further said raids were on to nab other six named in the FIR while investigation was on to collect evidence.
As per the complaint, the girl had gone to graze cattle on July 26, when youths from neighbouring village allegedly gang-raped the girl. They then threatened the girl of dire consequences to keep her mouth shut.
