A hunt was launched to capture the militants who ran away after throwing the grenade at the camp.

Militants attacked the army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles camp in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday evening with a grenade but no casualties or damage were reported, police said.

South Kashmir deputy inspector general of police SP Pani said a hunt was launched to capture the militants who ran away after throwing the grenade at the camp in the Kakpora area.

According to a Kashmiri news agency, the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant organisation claimed responsibility for the attack.

“Two RPG rockets were fired and they hit the target,” the agency quoted JeM spokesman Hassan Shah as saying.

Earlier in the day, security forces claimed to have busted a JeM module and arrested five people allegedly working for the outfit responsible for carrying out grenade attacks in the state. A former militant of the JeM was among those arrested.

“The module has confessed to having carried out grenade attacks in Pampore and Awantipora areas of Pulwama district,” said a police officer, who doesn’t want to be identified.

Monday’s attack happened a day after an army Captain and three soldiers were killed in heavy Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
