Lok Sabha elections 2019: Deora booked for violating model code
On April 4, Deora is reported to have said. “The Sena insulted the Jain community a few years ago when its workers cooked meat outside your temples during Paryushan. Remember this when you go out to vote.”
The LT Marg police on Sunday registered an FIR against Congress’s Mumbai South candidate Milind Deora for violating the model code of conduct earlier this month. The FIR was registered after the state election commission received a complaint by the Shiv Sena candidate from the constituency. According to the complaint, Deora was spreading a lie that Sena workers had cooked meat outside a Jain temple during Paryushan.
According to the police , they filed an FIR under section 171 (G) of the IPC for violating the code of conduct by making a false statement and section 125 of the Representation of People Act, 1950, for promoting enmity between classes in connection with elections.
“In my speech, I was making a simple point that the Sena in the name of Modi took votes from the people in 2014 and then turned against them. Such political hypocrisy needs to be exposed. I strongly feel no party should either appease or oppose any community’s practices and beliefs,” said Deora, in response to the FIR filed against him.
