Lok Sabha election 2019: TDP renominates millionaire MP in Guntur
Industrialist-turned-politician Jayadev Galla of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won the seat in 2014 defeating Vallabhaneni Balashowry of YSRCP.
Guntur is one of the most populated of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh. It is prized seat and is considered as the state’s educational hub.

Industrialist-turned-politician Jayadev Galla of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won the seat in 2014 defeating Vallabhaneni Balashowry of YSRCP by 69,111 votes. The Congress which was once a major power in Guntur was decimated. Its candidate Abdul Waheed Shaik finished third with 46,818 or just 3.76 per cent of the votes.
Galla, a millionaire MP - has once again been named as the TDP’s candidate in Guntur. He will be up against Modugula Venugopal Reddy of the YSRCP.
Guntur is known for chilli, tobacco and cotton exports and has the largest chilli market yard in Asia. It is located in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the 2011 census, out of a total population of 2091075, 48.71% is rural and 51.29% is urban population. The Scheduled castes (SC) and Scheduled tribes (ST) ratio is 19.41 and 3.3, respectively out of total population.
