The Aadhaar card Mehmood Akhtar, who is posted at the Pakistan high commission, showed to Delhi Police has his name as Mehboob Rajput.
“We have never seen any such person in the area. I am confused how our address was quoted. Media persons entered Gali Madari for the first time and unfortunately not for a good reason,” said Mohammad Qasim, a 50-year-old resident.
In Gali Meer Madari, building number 2350 has been home to 12 families for the last 60 years. The original owners vacated it during partition in 1947.
The building’s residents, while looking at the picture of Mehmood Akhtar, denied seeing him ever. Many of them said that despite being citizens of India, they were yet to get Aadhaar cards. But someone from across the border managed to get one.
“The photo they were showing on TV was grainy. So I thought maybe he was someone from our neighbourhood. Fortunately, he was not,” said Mohammad Asif, 43.
