An Indian Military Academy (IMA, Dehradun) cadet, hailing from Karnal in Haryana, died during a training exercise, officials said on Tuesday. An inquiry has been ordered into the death, said an official statement.

“The cadet, Amul Rawal, sustained a head injury and was given immediate medical attention on the spot.
He was rushed to Military Hospital, Dehradun, but was declared brought dead on arrival,” said the IMA.
Anil Kumar, the uncle of the deceased, said he joined the National Defence Academy in 2016 and came to IMA, Dehradun, in January this year.
“He was very happy about joining the academy and used to tell us about the training whenever we met him,” Kumar said.
About the cause of death, he said the family didn’t know exactly what happened, but he had received information that Rawal was injured in an accident during training. He said that other members of the family had gone to receive the body.
Rawal is survived by his father Jai Chand, mother Sunita Devi and younger brother Tarun Rawal.
