Parrikar was then admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

“Human mind can overcome any disease #WorldCancerDay,” Parrikar had tweeted on February 4.

Forty-one days after that tweet, the chief minister who was diagnosed with a pancreatic cancer in February last year, died Sunday evening in Panaji. Parrikar ‘s wife Medha had also died of cancer in 2001.

Over the past year, Parrikar had been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, New York and New Delhi but insisted on working as long as he could.

On January 27, he showed up at the inauguration of a signature bridge by Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in the capital city of Panaji . Three days later on January 30, he presented the state budget in the legislative assembly with a tube in his nose.

Politicians across parties have praised Parrikar for working for Goa till the end.
