Social media users erupted on micro-blogging website Twitter as the Bombay high court upheld women’s right to pray with its landmark decision to allow them entry inside the sanctum sanctorum of Haji Ali on Friday.
The court has granted the Haji Ali trust six weeks to implement the order and asked the state to ensure protection for women devotees, saying the ban violates fundamental rights.
A Muslim women’s foundation had petitioned in the court to restore 2012 regulations, when women were allowed into the sanctum sanctorum despite certain restrictions.
