Upset over wife’s ‘affair’, Sonepat man hacks her, 2 sons to death before hanging self
The incident came to light after the landlord went to check on the family after the children did not go to school. He receiving no response, he and other neighbours called the cops.
A 42-year-old brick kiln supplier hacked his wife and his two sons to death before hanging himself at his rented house in Sonepat district on Saturday. Satish Kumar was reportedly upset over his wife’s ‘affair’ with a local resident.

The bodies of Kumar, his wife Jyoti, 38, and sons Lakshay, 14 and Aryan, 11, were found by his elder brother Mahender.
Kumar’s landlord Ram Kumar, who stays on the ground floor, said he went to check on the family at 8 am after the two children did not come down to go to school. He said he knocked on the door that was locked from inside but got no response. Kumar then called Kumar on his mobile phone but it also went unanswered.
Worried, he informed other neighbours who suggested calling the police. Kumar then called Mahender and sister Suman who live nearby to his house. As the front door was locked, Mahender used a ladder to reach the backdoor. As he broke open the door to enter the house, he found Satish’s body hanging from the ceiling and his wife and two sons lying in a pool of blood on the bed. A sickle covered in blood was lying on the floor.
Sonepat police sub-inspector Jai Prakash, who is looking into the case, said they have found a suicide note that was kept on a sofa in the room. In the note, Kumar confessed to have killed his wife and two sons and said he took the extreme step as his wife, a schoolteacher, was having an affair with one Pradeep Mehta. Kumar also blamed Jyoti’s mother Nirmala and her two brothers Sandeep and Kuldeep for harassing him.
Mahender told police that his brother was disturbed over the affair for the past many months. “He had told me about Jyoti’s affair. He said that despite his repeated requests, his wife was not ready to end the affair. He had even told Jyoti’s mother and brothers about the affair but the latter paid no heed to it,” Mahender said.
Police have booked Mehla, who is the husband of local block samiti chairman, Nirmala, Sandeep and Kuldeep on charges of abetment to suicide.
Sonepat Civil Lines police station in-charge Anirudh Singh said the bodies were handed over to family after autopsy.
