The CM was addressing the felicitation ceremony of wrestler Sakshi Malik, who brought home a bronze medal for the country, in Bahadurgarh when he made the blunder in his speech.

“Humare liye bohot hi garv ki baat hai ki raksha bandhan ke din humari do betiyon ne desh ka naam ucha kiya hai...Ek Haryana se Sakshi Malik aur dusri Karnataka se…Sindhu…(asks his team: kya naam hai)..PV Sindhu, jo rajat padak jeeti hai..(it’s a proud moment for us that two of our daughters won medals on Raksha Bandhan. Sakshi Malik from Haryana and Sindhu from Karnataka),” he said.

At the felicitation programme, the CM announced a plethora of prizes for the 23-year-old wrestler and her family.

Notably, the Khattar government had also announced a 50 lakh reward for Hyderabad-based badminton player PV Sindhu.

The speech comes as a second blow to the state run BJP government, who was already under fire for its sports minister Anil Vij’s Rio junket skipping Haryana sportsmen matches in the Olympics, despite flying all the way on taxpayers’ money.
