Hindu Janjagruti Samiti volunteers will launch a national campaign against the website on September 10 from Kashi.

Actress Sunny Leone’s official website, catering adult content, is now on the radar of right wing outfit Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) that wants a complete ban on the portal. The organisation is headquartered in Goa.

HJS volunteers will launch a national campaign against the website on September 10 from Kashi. Volunteers said that Kashi was chosen as “it’s the cultural capital of India”.

HJS activists plan to stage a demonstration at Shashtri Ghat. The regional coordinator of the organisation, Nilesh Singbal, along with some volunteers, is presently engaged in seeking support of locals for the campaign.

Interacting with the HT, Singbal said, “Kashi is known as the cultural capital of India. We have chosen it to launch the campaign against this obscene website to send a clear message that such portals are a threat to the Indian culture and values.” He also stressed that the government should place a complete ban on Sunny Leone’s website as it was “widely engaged in spreading obscenity”.

Asked why HJS was calling for a ban only on Sunny Leone’s website, Singbal gave an interesting reason. “In India, people are not much aware about names of other porn stars. Her growing popularity has become a threat to the Indian culture,” said Singbal, adding that he had been told that Leone’s name was widely used by people while searching for adult content on the internet.

The activist also advocated imposing a ban on other “such websites” too. He said that HJS had a big plan to create awareness among people about the ill-impact of porn websites on the minds of people.
