Farmers Protest highlights: Traffic affected at Delhi borders, say police

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has alleged that 30 farmers, who were coming by train, have been detained in Sawai Madhopur.

"We are unable to contact farmers coming from South and Central parts of the country, they may have been detained. Twitter handles of about 100 farmer leaders have been blocked since last night," Pandher said at a press conference, according to PTI.

Farmers Protest Live updates: On Wednesday, Traffic was affected at borders of the national capital in view of the farmers' protest, police said.

A massive jam was witnessed at Delhi-Haryana's Singhu border and Delhi-Noida border due to heavy deployment of the security personnel, reported news agency PTI.

Notably, police have installed barricades at borders and other parts of the city and intensified checking on roads leading to central Delhi.

Farmers' protest Live updates: With farmers resuming their 'Delhi Chalo' march on Wednesday, police have said that commuters may face traffic jams due to the protests, reported news agency PTI.

The Delhi Police said it will be keeping a strict vigil at the Tikri, Singhu, and the Ghazipur borders, as well as railway and metro stations and bus stands.

"We have stepped up security at all three borders. However, we are not shutting any border or route but vehicle checking will take place," an officer said.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) national body has given a call for Mahapanchayat in Delhi on March 14, reported news agency ANI.

They aim to highlight issues of a legal guarantee of MSP, freedom from debt, old age pension, rolling back of labour codes, and other pending issues.

The farmers have called for a four-hour countrywide 'rail roko' on March 10, reported news agency ANI.

In the latest round of talks on February 18, a panel of three Union ministers had made an offer to buy five crops - moong dal, urad dal, tur dal, maize, and cotton - from farmers at MSP for five years through central agencies. However, the protesting farmers turned down the offer and resumed protests.

Delhi Police has increased security preparedness at the Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur borders in view of the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march on Wednesday.

"It is the 23rd day of the protest that was launched by the KMM and SKM (non-political). Like we announced earlier, farmers from other states will start marching towards Delhi from today. They won't come on tractor-trolleys and that's why I don't think anyone would be able to reach (Delhi) today. The situation would be clear by March 10," says farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher as quoted by news agency PTI.
