Don't trust Delhi Police, might file loose FIR against Brij Bhushan: Wrestlers

Apr 28, 2023 04:56 PM IST

Wrestlers' protest at Jantar Mantar will continue until Brij Bhushan is arrested and jailed, the protesters said after Delhi Police said it will file an FIR.

The wrestlers protesting against Wrestling Foundation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said they do not trust the Delhi Police after Delhi Police on Friday informed the Supreme Court that an FIR will be filed against Brij Bhushan, the BJP MP. "We don't have any trust in Delhi Police. Because we have been sitting here for the last six days. They took so much time to file the FIR. They have broken the trust that could have been built. They might file a loose FIR," the protesters said.

"We will see what the Delhi Police does. Our next course of action will depend on that. But our demand remains the same, put him in jail. He should be removed from all posts -- the MP, the WFI chief. As long as he remains the WFI chief, he will misuse the post, and influence the investigation. We want an unbiased investigation. We have complete trust in the Supreme Court," the wrestlers said thanking for the support their protest garnered from politicians and other sportspersons.

One of the complainants is a minor and senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners in the Supreme Court, expressed concerns for her safety.

The second phase of the wrestlers' protest against WFI chief Brij Bhushan has picked up by the political parties while Indian Olympics Association president PT Usha differed with the protesters and said they should have shown some discipline and come to the authorities first, before taking to the street.

Coach Mahavir Prasad Bishnoi, who is another accused and allegedly threatened the wrestlers on behalf of Brij Bhushan said he is ready to be hanged if proved guilty. "You can check my call records and my locations in the last few days. There is no truth in these allegations. I don't even know who the victims are. If it's proved that I am involved in giving threat calls, I am ready to be hanged," Bishnoi said.
