Class 10 student accused of killing junior in Vadodara school toilet arrested
The incident has brought back memories of a similar murder last year, when a Class 11 student allegedly slit the throat of a seven-year-old schoolmate in the toilet of a Gurugram school.
Gujarat police have arrested a Class 10 student who allegedly killed a junior in the toilet of a school in Vadodara on Friday, an incident that brought back memories of a similar murder in Haryana’s Gurugram last year.
The accused was apprehended the same night. The body of the 14-year-old victim, a Class 9 student, bore as many as 15 stab wounds.
Four students of the school reported seeing the accused stab the victim, commissioner of police Manoj Shashidhar said. While preliminary investigation revealed that the two were involved in a dispute, investigators hope to uncover the exact reason for their disagreement after questioning the accused.
Police said a school bag belonging to the accused was found on the terrace of a temple near the school building. It contained three big knives and a bottle filled with red chilli solution. Another 12-inch knife was found near the body of the boy, an officer said.
A school administrator said the Class 9 student had joined the school this academic year, which began a fortnight ago. “Around 11.50 am, a group of primary students informed teachers about a body lying in the toilet. The victim died before the ambulance could get there,” he added.
A Class 11 student had allegedly slit the throat of a seven-year-old schoolmate in a Gurugram school toilet on September 8 last year. The incident created an uproar, with demands being made that the accused be tried as an adult.
