  TMC MP Mahua Moitra slams Yogi Adityanath over Asad's encounter

  Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday while addressing a press conference called UP CM “Mr. Thok Do” as a response to Asad Ahmad's encounter. 

  “So this kind of complete lawlessness, jungle raj, encounter killings always flourished under the gentleman and contiue to do so,” Mahua was quoted as saying by ANI.

  Asad's encounter prevented attempt to free gangster Atiq Ahmed from custody: UP police

  The UP police have stated that the killing of Atiq Ahmed's son, Asad, in an encounter prevented an attempt to help the jailed gangster's escape.

  "We had information that to help the accused Atiq and Ashraf escape there could be an attack on the police convoy bringing them back to UP in the case (Umesh Pal murder case). In view of this information, teams of civil police and special forces were deployed," an official was quoted as saying by ANI.

  The Uttar Pradesh Police chargesheet filed before the court in Umesh Pal murder case mentions a recorded statement of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.

  "...I have no dearth of weapons because I have direct connections with Pakistan's ISI and terror org Lashkar-e-Taiba. Weapons from Pakistan are dropped on Punjab border with the help of drones and local connection collects them. Terrorists in J&K get weapons from this consignment. If you take me with you, I can help you recover that money and arms & ammunition used in the incident," the chargesheet cites Atiq, according to ANI.

  Asad, aide were killed in encounter by team of 12 members of UP STF

  Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and aide was killed in an encounter by a team of 12 members of UP Special Task Force in Jhansi today. "They possessed foreign-made weapons which are rare. We are making efforts to arrest all the criminals who have come to light. STF has put in full might," police official was quoted as saying by ANI.
