New systems have to be embraced with open mind, ex-CJI Dipak Misra

Former chief justice of India Dipak Mishra said on Thursday newer the challenge, the better the human effort should be to tackle it as he enumerated the legal system’s adaptation of new technology in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.Speaking during the third day of the 19th edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Justice Misra said the new systems have to be embraced with an open mind in order to meet the obstacles thrown by the pandemic.Catch the HTLS live session here“When the world is still recovering from the fear psychosis caused by Covid-19, the burden has greatly shifted on the organisations having pan-world reach to act as the building blocks to bring the world to normalcy,” Misra, who served as India’s 45th chief justice, said.He said that new and innovative business models have come up which utilise the ever-expanding digital environment to maximise the gains by enhancing the market reach.“During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have switched to the digital environment which offers a global reach with infinite capacity and stupendous connectivity," he added.Also read | HTLS: Emerging world order calls for constitutional democracy, says ex-CJI MisraThe new world order is bound to witness glory, he said as he listed how technology has helped in bringing the world together. In a situation of adversity, one should never accept defeat and have faith in oneself which he said makes each individual the captain of his ship.“The new arrangement in the form of online dispute resolution has to be embraced with an open mind. The openness of the mind to accept the idea would be the real adaptation of the new world order,” he said.He also said nothing can replace physical hearings in courts across the but both have to coexist.As he concluded his address, the former CJI said noise makes a society lose substance and hold on to the evening shadow.
