The Sahkar Taxi service is aimed to profit the drivers directly, as opposed to many cab aggregators. Can, auto drivers in NCR hail it as a positive move.

The government's announcement to introduce Sahkar Taxi has infused joy among the drivers of cabs, autos in Delhi-NCR. The new service, which is set to pose a competition to cab aggregators such as Uber and Ola with a driver-first approach, is designed using a cooperative-based platform, Sahkar Taxi. The initiative aims to ensure that all profits go directly to the drivers, and eliminate the commission cuts. Hence the cab and auto drivers across NCR share that they are looking forward to it.

The service that will include two-wheeler taxis, rickshaws, and four-wheelers, is also planning to offer commuters more options than the existing apps. Bhupendra Yadav, a cab driver who uses several existing platforms, says, “Abhi toh poora din gaadi chalate hain fir bhi kuch zyada kamai nahi hoti. Jitne ki ride uthate hain, uska ek hissa toh company le jaati hai. If we get the whole amount of what we work for, then it would be much easier to provide for our families. Kharche nikalenge toh mehnat karne ka fayeda bhi hoga aur mann bhi karega achhse se kaam karne ka.”

“Jo mehnat karta hai, kamai bhi usi ke paas jaani chahiye,” adds Vijay, an autorikshaw driver, opining: “Earlier I used to feel ki koi bhi mobile app honi hi nahi chahiye. Par agar aisi ek app ban rahi hai jismein drivers ka fayeda bhi socha jayega, then it's a good thing that the government that taken this step kyunki private companies toh apna benefit dekhengi aur customer apna budget.”

Even for cab driver Mohan, the fact that the app is being launched by the government is a positive sign. “Agar yeh app koi company laati toh yehi dar rehta ki kahin aise na ho ki koi naya system aajaye that again disables the drivers from earning to their maximum potential. Lekin ab sarkar ne bola hai toh shayad waise hi ho jaisa hum sun rahe hain. Agar yeh system sahi se chala toh zarur issi app pe gaadi chalayenge sab.”
