Woody Allen was unfocused and called me “awful”: Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett says that her Blue Jasmine director Woody Allen was unfocused on set and called her Oscar-winning performance “awful.”
Cate Blanchett has revealed that her Blue Jasmine director Woody Allen was uncooperative during filming and told her she was giving an “awful” performance. Blanchett won an Oscar for her role.

Although the 46-year-old actress went on to win an Oscar for her role in the movie, she revealed that the director was initially not impressedm reported Female First.
“The first day was brutal. He came up to me said, ‘This is awful and you’re awful’. As if he were talking about someone else, some other actress and that maybe I could go and have a word with her.

“And then three weeks later it turned out that he didn’t like the costumes, he didn’t like the locations, he didn’t like the scene. He said, ‘You’ve got to help me rescue this movie’,” Blanchett said.
The actress said Allen’s indecisiveness made her step up and take charge.
“I realised I had to demand things from him. And sometimes he would look at me just bewildered. But I’m not particularly needy.
“A lot of time, actors ask questions and what they’re really asking is, ‘Was I good? Did you like me?’ But my questions were all technical. And he would answer my questions maybe half of the time. The other half he didn’t hear me, or he was pretending not to hear me.”
