What do you do? You're not an engineer, you're not designer… So how come, ten times a day I'm (told) Jobs is a genius?

Seth Rogen's gravelly voice opens the first full theatrical trailer for director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs biopic titled, as hubristically as the character it portrays, Steve Jobs.

In what feels like a spiritual sequel to David Fincher's The Social Network (also written by Aaron Sorkin), Steve Jobs continues the writer's fascination with maverick creators, who are often plagued by an uncontrollable ego and blessed with a talent for spinning that silver-tongued Sorkin dialogue.

'Musicians play instruments, I play the orchestra', declares Jobs, in just one of the many immensely quotable lines from the trailer.

We are introduced to the main players: Jobs, his partner in crime Steve Wozniak (Seth Rogen in a rare dramatic role), Kate Winslet (unrecognizable), and Katherine Waterston as his long-suffering ex-girlfriend.

We are also given a basic idea of the many conflicts the film with tackle: Jobs' troubled domestic life (usually slipped under the rug) being prominently featured. There are also several of those delightfully twisted boardroom scenes Sorkin does so well and Jeff Daniels seems to be at his scene-stealing best in them.

Michael Fassbender came in to play the titular role after everyone from Christian Bale to Leonardo DiCaprio were courted (Fincher made it a condition in his contract that he would only agree to a Social Network reunion if Bale agreed to star). But he seems to be fitting right in with Danny Boyle's frenetic style.

'I sat in a garage and invented the future because artists lead and hacks ask for a show of hands', yells an aggravated Jobs in a scene not to unlike the one from The Social Network where Mark Zuckerberg answers 'condescending' questions.

Steve Jobs stars Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet, Katherine Watertson, Michale Stuhbarg and Jeff Daniels. It is written by Aaron Sorkin based on Walter Isaacson's popular biography and directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle. It is expected to hit theatres on October 9.

Expect it to make a splash this awards season.
