Watch: Avengers Infinity War deleted scene will remind you of Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One
Thanos confronts Gamora and plays mind games with her in a new deleted scene from Avengers: Infinity War. The scene’s incomplete effects may or may not remind you of Shah Rukh Khan’s completed Ra.One.
A new deleted scene from Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War has been released online, to coincide with the film’s home video release. Following the Guardians Get Their Groove Back scene which was made available a few weeks ago, the new scene is titled A Father’s Choice and features Thanos playing mind games with his daughter, Gamora.
Thanos and Gamora’s relationship contributed heavily to the film’s emotional backbone. This two-and-a-half minute scene is unfinished - with un-rendered backgrounds, half-finished environments, and cheesy placeholder effects that will remind you of Shah Rukh Khan’s big budget superhero movie, Ra.One.
“After my planet died, I had no one,” says a very basic-looking Thanos to Gamora, “until I found you.” The footage here is so rough that we don’t even see Thanos’ lips move as he speaks. Josh Brolin played Thanos in a motion capture performance, while Zoe Saldana - who looks like a cut-out - played Gamora.
The scene involves Thanos having a talk with Gamora about what finding the Soul Stone means to him. In the film, Thanos is told (by Red Skull) that to obtain the Soul Stone, he must sacrifice the life of someone he loves. Gamora is then thrown off a cliff, and we see Thanos weep at the actions his ambitions have forced him to take.
To convince her to join in on this mission, Thanos shows Gamora a younger version of herself - back when she was a more dutiful daughter to him. Their relationship soured before the events of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which was when we were first introduced to her. Gamora confronts Thanos about his manipulative ways, which leads into the scene we saw in the theatrical version, of Gamora having to save her sister, Nebula.
The directors - Joe & Anthony Russo - revealed in the film’s commentary track that the only reason why this ‘complex’ scene was removed from the final cut was because of time constraints.
Infinity War went on to gross over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue with March’s Captain Marvel and May’s Avengers 4, which will serve as a conclusion to the MCU as we know it. The film is expected to tell the story of the surviving Avengers’ last stand against Thanos, and has been rumoured to include a plotline that will resurrect the fallen superheroes, perhaps even Gamora.
