YouTube has removed a new ad for the upcoming horror film, The Nun, deeming it ‘too shocking’ to be shown as an ad. You can watch it here.
A new viral marketing campaign for The Nun, an upcoming horror spin-off of the Conjuring series, is reportedly so scary that several people are feeling compelled to warn others about it. It has been described as ‘upsetting’ and ‘irresponsible’ from those who have fallen for it.

The six-second advertisement pops up on YouTube and begins with a volume icon going down. The ad basically comprises of an unexpected jump scare - specifically an image of the titular Nun popping out at you with full sound effects.
One person took to Twitter to share their experience and perhaps warn others to be aware of the ad if they see the message to turn up the volume on their systems. “WARNING! If you see an ad on youtube with the volume sign being turned down and nothing else, ITS A JUMPSCARE for the new NUN movie coming out. i advise you look away and/or turn down the volume if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jumpscares, pls rt to save a life,” the person wrote. The tweet has so far accumulated over 120,000 retweets and over 130,000 likes.
On Redditor called for YouTube to take the ad down. “YouTube should allow you to not see horror movie ads,” they wrote. “I shouldn’t get nightmares from a comedic video I’m trying to watch.”
YouTube later replied to the original tweet and confirmed that they had taken down the ad. “Appreciate you bringing this to our attention! This ad violates our shocking content policy and it’s no longer running as an ad,” YouTube’s tweet read.
The Nun is the second spinoff to the Conjuring series, after the two Annabelle films. Every film in the series has been commercially successful. Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun is about a priest who is sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a nun in Romania. The film will be released on September 7.
