The first, proper trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home is here, and it is full of Avengers: Endgame spoilers and tantalising details of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future.

Sony Pictures have released the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, and after having seen it, there’s an obvious reason why they didn’t show it ahead of Avengers: Endgame. As star Tom Holland says in quick intro, if you haven’t seen Endgame yet, beware of spoilers.

The trailer answers many questions that fans have been contemplating for months. Most importantly, we now know that the film is, in fact, set after the events of Endgame, and it isn’t a prequel, as had been rumoured. The trailer opens with Peter Parker and Happy Hogan talking about the death of Iron Man, and how his absence has created a void. Peter is expected to step up to the plate - not necessarily as Iron Man but as a more responsible Earth-dwelling Avenger.

But first, he needs to get his personal life in order. When the pressure gets too much to handle, Peter escapes Nick Fury’s calls and goes off on a vacation to Europe. While he’s there, Fury catches a hold of him and introduces him to Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, with whom Peter must partner up to fight the Elementals.

And here’s the second big revelation that the trailer makes: Mysterio belongs to Earth, but a different Earth, which was created after Iron Man snapped his fingers in Endgame. This is the first time the Marvel Cinematic Universe has confirmed the existence of the Multiverse, which is perhaps a clue as to the direction they’re going in for future movies.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is a direct sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film is directed by Jon Watts, and returning cast members include Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei and Jon Favreau. New cast members are Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, Samuel L Jackson as Fury, and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill. Spider-Man: Far From Home is set for a July release.
