Marvel unveils first footage from Avengers 4, fans describe what they saw

Marvel knows how to set up a show. Weeks before their hotly anticipated Comic Con panel - an event at which fans are expecting the studio to premiere footage from Captain Marvel and reveal the title for Avengers 4 - chief Kevin Feige treated fans at the ongoing CineEurope event in Barcelona to exclusive previews from both films.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney held previews for films on their upcoming slate, including Toy Story 4, Aladdin, Dumbo and The Lion King.

Security was extremely tight at the event, with attendees being told to hand in their cell phones before the presentation. But someone on Reddit offered second-hand descriptions of the footage Marvel showed. The Captain Marvel footage was mostly behind-the-scenes, but one unnamed crew member was quoted as saying that “Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

As for the Avengers 4 footage, the Reddit post said that fans were shown an exchange between Iron Man and Ant-Man, in which they were discussing a new piece of technology that would enable the Avengers to “go to multiple realities and collect the Infinity Stones.”

This falls in line with all the early reports we’ve heard, and the leaked set pictures we saw ahead of the release of Avengers: Infinity War. In the picture, we saw the Avengers back on the Battle of New York set, but joined by Ant-Man. Fans have speculated that in order to save the heroes who died at the end of Infinity War, the surviving members of the team would travel back in time with the help of a Time Stone.

In those pictures we also saw each of the actors wearing blue additions to their suits, indicating the involvement of new tech.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is expected to introduce the Quantum Realm into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, opening the doors to alternate realities. A recent unofficial synopsis of the film also teased time travel, alternate realities, and more death.

Avengers 4 is scheduled for a May, 2019 release. The film will serve as a conclusion to the current iteration of the MCU.
