Fans have turned on writer JK Rowling after she made new revelations about the Harry Potter series. Rowling has been criticised for retroactively making omissions and additions to her beloved series, much to the fans’ annoyance. Her latest revelation implies that two characters - Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald - had an intense sexual relationship in the past. Neither the novels nor the films have shown this relationship.
In the audio commentary track for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Rowling said, “It was passionate, and it was a love relationship/ But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know.”
Rowling had previously mentioned that Dumbledore is gay, despite never touching upon his sexuality in the Potter books. She has also endorsed changes made to characters’ races and religions.

After mixed critical reaction to The Crimes of Grindelwald, production on Fantastic Beasts 3 was pushed back by a few months. Rowling is the sole credited writer on the Harry Potter spin-offs, and is also on board as a producer. She was criticised recently for having defended actor Johnny Depp despite his ex-wife Amber Heard’s accusations of domestic violence against him. Depp plays the titular Grindelwald in the films, and his role is only expected to increase in the future.
