First trailer for Conjuring spin-off The Nun will make you pray for forgiveness
Another year, another spin-off to the Conjuring film series. Warner Bros has released the first trailer for The Nun. Watch it here.
Warner Bros on Wednesday released the first trailer for The Nun, a new potential prequel series spawned from the very successful Conjuring franchise. The film will trace the origins of the villainous Nun from The Conjuring 2.
The one-and-a-half minute trailer opens with a message: “Make sure you watch to the end.” A young nun is haunted by visions of an evil presence. She tells the resident priest of her visions and is instructed by the church to travel to Romania. And thus, the trailer informs us, “the darkest chapter (of the Conjuring universe) was born.”
The trailer offers several atmospheric shots of Romania, and the dungeons that the young nun and the priest explore to find answers to the malevolent presence that haunts them. And it ends with a trademark conjuring jump scare moment, probably the one that we’d been told to wait for.
The Nun was an afterthought in Conjuring 2, added by director James Wan in reshoots for the film. The character captured the imagination of the franchise’s fans, and was quickly given its own movie.
Directed by Corin Hardy and produced and co-written by Wan, the creator and director of the first two Conjuring films, The Nun is scheduled for a September 17 release. The film, the fifth in the series, stars Oscar nominee Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet.
