Captain Marvel’s post-credits scene might actually be from Avengers Endgame
We now know that Avengers Endgame will either open with the Avengers and Carol Danvers already having been introduced, or perhaps we’ll see the post-credits scene again, in which case, it would mean that we’ve already seen a bit of Endgame without even realising it.
No one gets up and simply walks out of a Marvel movie; we wait for the credits. What began in 2008’s Iron Man as an interesting new concept has spurned a series of imitators. This week’s Captain Marvel continues the MCU’s trend to end its films with short scenes that range from those that have immense implications for Avengers: Endgame to those that are more frivolous in nature. Captain Marvel has one of each.
The first one is set at the Avengers headquarters, following the events of Avengers: Infinity War. We see Steve Rogers and Black Widow observing several scenes that appear to be tracking the fallout of Thanos’ snap. Beside them is the high-tech pager Carol Danvers had left with Nick Fury at the end of Captain Marvel - the same pager that Fury is seen activating at the end of Infinity War. Carol had told him to use it only in emergencies.
Steve and Nat are joined by Rhodey and Bruce Banner who point out that the pager has stopped transmitting its signal. “I want to know who’s on the other end of that thing,” Nat says, hinting that the Avengers have left the device to continue sending its distress signal into the universe.
Suddenly, from behind them, we see Captain Marvel appear. She has a concerned look on her face as she asks, “Where’s Fury?” The screen cuts to the familiar title card, “Captain Marvel will return in Avengers: Endgame.”
We now know that Endgame will either open with the Avengers and Carol already having been introduced, or perhaps we’ll see this scene again, in which case, it would mean that we’ve already seen a bit of Endgame without even realising it.
Captain Marvel has already been established as one of the most powerful characters the MCU has ever seen - but it remains to be seen if this introduction happens at the beginning of Endgame or before the film’s third act.
The film’s second post-credits scene features only one character - the flerken/cat Goose. In a rather pointless throwback to the post-credits scene of the first Avengers movie, and even Guardians of the Galaxy, the scene has little implications on the future of the series, and shows Goose hurling a Tesseract shaped hairball. It’s interesting to note, however, just how important a role the Tesseract plays in the future of the MCU. It was brought to Earth by Odin, then rediscovered by Red Skull in the first Captain America movie, before being reclaimed by Loki for his sceptre, and then stolen by Thanos for his Infinity Gauntlet.

With just little over a month to go till Endgame, we won’t have to wait too long to find out. The film opens on April 26, and Captain Marvel - thanks to its massive $455 million global debut - will likely be a factor at the box office even then.
