A new supercut video of Avengers: Infinity War and other Marvel films challenges fans not to tear up at the sight of their favourite superheroes sacrificing their lives for each other.

Now that Avengers: Infinity War is out on home video, fans are able to make video essays and compilations using footage from the film. A new one, shared by 9gag on Tuesday, focuses on one of the film’s biding themes: Sacrifice.

The five-minute video contains footage from several Marvel films, but highlights the most pivotal moments of Infinity War and the selfless sacrifice of characters such as Thor, Yondu, Gamora, Vision, Heimdall and others.

The video begins with The Collector’s voiceover explaining the origin and importance of the Infinity Stones. We then hear the villainous Thanos’ famous warning speech, “Dread it, fear it, run from it...”

In Infinity War, Thanos’ strategy including pitting certain characters against each other - Thor and Loki, Gamora and Nebula, Gamora and Peter Quill, Vision and Scarlet Witch - to see if they would break. Every time, the heroes came through, and proved why they are heroes in the first place. “The hardest choices are the strongest ones,” says Thanos, as the clip of him throwing his daughter Gamora over a cliff plays.

The entire video is set to emotional music, designed to make you teary, especially if you were moved by the film’s infamous ending. At the end of Infinity War, several Avengers’ died when Thanos snapped his fingers and eviscerated half the universe’s population.

To make things even more gut-wrenching, the video intercuts footage from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Peter Parker’s death scene in Infinity War. “Mr Stark, I don’t feel so good,” Peter says as he collapses into Tony Stark’s hands. And we immediately cut to Homecoming, and the rooftop scene in which Tony tells Peter, “If you die, that’s on me.”

“I have spent most of my life surrounded by my enemies. I will be grateful to die surrounded by my friends,” Gamora’s words are perfect as the video ends and we see the surviving Avengers regroup.

The heroes will return in Avengers 4, which is scheduled for release in May 2019. The film will undergo a few weeks of reshoots in a few months, and will serve as a significant conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, according to Disney chief Bob Iger.
