Avengers: Infinity War co-writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely talked in detail about the movie in a recent interview.

Avengers: Infinity War may soon be the most successful movie ever made but it wasn’t always as perfect as the version you finally saw on the big screen. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely recently discussed everything about the movie and revealed some cool, unknown details.

However, here’s a spoiler alert if you haven’t watched Avengers: Infinity War yet.

While answering a question on the changes made to the original script and in the editing room, the screenwriters revealed how drastically different one scene in the movie was. Iron Man/Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr) introduction scene in the film -- in which he is seen jogging in a park with fiance Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and planning baby names -- was much longer and also, tonally very different from the rest of the movie.

“We shot an entirely different, I’m being serious, [scene]. We shot an unbelievably long version of Tony and Pepper in the park that featured cameos and it was sort of Robert [Downey Jr.] and his friends’ day at the park. Went a little crazy and then we turned the camera off,” they said.

“It got kind of out of control. It was off-plot entirely so we went back and we wrote one that was in a different place, that was much more tonally on plot, took place in a different place. It was Tony and Pepper. We shot it and it was kind of lovely but it got you off on the wrong foot with Tony. It was like he knew the movie was about to happen. So, we went back down to an edited down version of that park scene. I have vivid memories of shooting and writing that scene you’ll never see, or maybe, you never know,” they added. It seems the hint is that the scene may find its way into the Blu Ray edition of the film when it releases.

We guess the final product was indeed better. Tony talks to Pepper about making babies and how he is trying to be more responsible which all blows in his face at the end. He loses the closest thing he had to a child, Peter Parker, who was his responsibility to look after. The boy dies in his arms in one of the most emotionally scarring scenes of the film, to establish how he couldn’t be a good father (figure) to him.

The screenwriters also talked about why some characters took longer time to be reduced to dust, the convenient powers of the Stormbreaker, the romantic angle between Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers and more. Watch the full video here:
