Avengers Endgame director on why you ‘shouldn’t feel sad or angry’ about what happened to Iron Man
Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo has said that fans shouldn’t feel sad or angry about what happened to Iron Man. Here’s why.
Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo has answered some burning questions about the film that have been bothering fans. Spoilers for the film follow.

Russo in an interview to a Chinese portal provided insight into why Iron Man was chosen over others to be the one to use the Infinity Stones against Thanos.
Russo said, “Only Hulk was strong enough to do the snap without dying. We are still not sure whether Captain Marvel can also withstand all the power of Infinity Stones at once.” He also said that “Thor in this movie couldn’t do it,” perhaps because he has let himself go. Tony Stark even hints at this when Thor offers to wear the Infinity Gauntlet.

“The reason we choose to let Iron Man do it in the end,” Russo continued, “was because he was the closest one to Thanos at the time. In all the futures Doctor Strange foresees, Iron Man was the only one who could get close to Thanos and do the snap. People usually think the death of a hero is a horrible tragedy. But we think this is different. When his death was able to bring back hope, to save half of the universe, then his death was powerful and meaningful. We shouldn’t feel too sad or angry about it.”
In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark sacrifices his life to vanquish Thanos and bring back half the universe’s population, that was lost at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. He does this by displaying nifty sleight of hand and taking over the Infinity Stones.
Endgame has grossed over $1.6 billion worldwide in one week of release, including ₹310 crore in India, which is an all-time record for a Hollywood film in the country.
