Oscars 2017 highlights: Moonlight shines over La La Land, wins Best Picture
Oscars 2017 Live: Moonlight won Best Picture, after a great misunderstanding which initially revealed La La Land to be the winner. Casey Affleck won the Best Actor in a Leading role for Manchester by the Sea, beating out Denzel Washington and Ryan Gosling for La La Land. Damien Chazelle won the Best Director, and Emma Stone won Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Moonlight, director Barry Jenkins’ enigmatic coming of age tale won Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards after a great misunderstanding initially revealed La La Land to be the winner. La La Land producers realised the mistake as they were giving their acceptance speech.

From the crowd, a great cheer rose as everyone realised what had happened. The cast and crew of Moonlight jumped up and embraced each other, as a very uncomfortable situation unfolded on stage. Host Jimmy Kimmel tried to make sense of what had happened, for a moment, even chastising presenter Warren Beatty.
