Your driving licence test will be recorded on CCTV
Getting a driving licence will soon become tougher as the Gurgaon Police will conduct enhanced tests to check your driving skills, Badri Chatterjee reports.
Getting a driving licence will soon become tougher as the Gurgaon Police will conduct enhanced tests to check your driving skills.

The evaluation will become lengthier and classified. During the test, an inspector-level officer will sit next to the applicant and CCTV cameras will be used to monitor his/her skills. Even the slightest of mistake can cause denial of one’s licence and invite repetition of the test.
The transport department, in collaboration with car major Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), has set up a dedicated driving test track — just off the Gurgaon expressway near the Mini Secretariat. It was launched on Wednesday.
“As of now, a ground at the same location was being used to conduct driving licence test. But with this track, the process of issuing the licence, too, has changed,” stated Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal, while inaugurating the track.
“With the help of MSIL, a proper driving, training and testing facility has been implemented. The applicant will be evaluated during and after the test. The performance of each applicant will be checked objectively with the help of CCTV cameras, which will be installed here soon,” he said.
This joint initiative between MSIL and the Gurgaon Police will ensure specificity in terms of sharp turns, applying breaks frequently and control over light motor vehicles due to increased difficulty levels.
After one gets a learner’s licence, s/he has to wait for 42 days, only then s/he can apply for a permanent one.
The test will be held on this new track between 2pm and 3.30pm from Monday to Friday.
