Water shortage hits residents in both Old and New Gurgaon

Water shortage has hit the residents in both Old and New Gurgaon. Power tripping at Chandu Budhera treatment plant ensured that water supply to posh DLF residents was scarce.

The situation has remained the same for the past three days. It is no different in Sector 14,17, 22A and other areas that are the tail end of the Huda supply lines.

Power tripping at the Budhera plant happened three days ago, however, residents have alleged that water supply has been erratic since the onset of summer. “We have not received water for the past three days and the situation improved partially today but DLF phase 1 and 3 are still not normal,” said Dhruv Bansal, resident of Phase 1.

Another resident of Silver Oaks condominium, Parminder Singh, complained that there was no water supply on Friday. “We had to fetch water in buckets as the overhead water tank could not be filled,” he said.

The situation across the highway in Sector 14, parts of Sector 15 and Sector 17 has also worsened as a master pipeline is damaged in Sukhrali village. The pipeline was repaired once but it was damaged again after a few hours.

“The authorities take so long in reacting to the situation and no one is clear about what is happening. We first approached Huda and later talked to the MCG officials. It was after a long dillydallying that the situation was back to normal,” said Dinesh Agarwal, president of Sector 14 RWA.

Another pipeline was damaged in Friends Colony that supplies water in Sector 15 and surrounding areas.

KS Yadav, who also represents an RWA, said that Huda and the MCG should replace old and worn out pipelines as high pressure during the summer season results in ruptures and damage.

Sector 23A RWA president Malkhan Singh Yadav said that water supply has been erratic for the last couple of weeks. “There is an urgent need to fix the pipeline only then can the water supply be restored properly,” he said.

Meanwhile, MCG officials said that they are taking all measures to ensure water supply is normal. Vijay Dhaka, executive engineer of the MCG said that wherever there is a shortage, water tankers are being sent.

Superintending engineer Sanjeev Chopra of the DHBVN said that power at Chandu Budhera plant often trips because the power supply system does not have an inbuilt mechanism to prevent tripping. “The power infrastructure needs to be upgraded so such problems can be prevented,” he said.
