They were also joined by residents of other privately-developed townships who are facing similar problems with their respective builders.

The protest was led by Abhey Poonia, former president of the residents’ welfare association (RWA), who was also listed as a ‘defaulter’.

“I have made all payments and there are no dues on me,” said Poonia. In his complaint, he claimed that the society maintenance staff went to the terrace on the pretext of checking the water lines but deliberately snapped his connection.

Pradeep Singh, SHO of the Sector-56 police station, said, “We have not lodged an FIR. It is a formal complaint and we are conducting an inquiry. The maintenance staff had reportedly gone to rectify some fault in the water pipelines.”

“We will ensure that the water supply, if disconnected intentionally, is restored immediately,” said the SHO.

Meanwhile, the Suncity maintenance wing refuted the allegations levelled by residents.

“This is totally false. The plumber had gone to the terrace to rectify a complaint,” said Harinder Kumar, assistant general manager, Suncity maintenance.

Residents and Suncity Maintenance Private Limited have been at loggerheads on the issue of hiked charges for long.

While the developer has hiked the amount of R1.75/sq yard, residents are still paying R1.

“We are ready to handover the colony maintenance to the RWA. If they can maintain the locality at R1/sq yard, we are fine with it,” added Kumar.
