The mishap took place between Hero Honda Chowk and Rajiv Chowk when one of the trucks unexpectedly halted. The driver of one of the trucks was seriously injured.
The police said both trucks were returning from Rajasthan. While the first truck was carrying vegetables, the other was laden with stones. The driver of the first truck fled the spot after the accident, the police said.
Assistant sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar, who rescued one of the drivers stuck between the steering wheel and the engine, was awarded R1,500 for carrying out the rescue operation. “We used a crane to lift the truck carrying vegetables and slowly dragged out the victim, Om Pal, through the truck’s window. The rescue operation took 30 minutes,” said Kumar.
