Ryan school reopens Monday with Gurgaon DC as administrator

After a traumatic shutdown following the murder of an eight-year-old boy in its premises, Ryan International School is set to reopen on Monday under the government’s administration.

Ten days after the murder of Class 2 student in its premise, Ryan International school at Bhondsi will reopen on Monday when Gurgaon deputy commissioner takes over as administrator of the institution.

On Friday, the state government had announced that it would be taking over the school management for three months until the situation normalises. The government had also ordered a CBI probe into the murder.

“As per orders of directorate of school education, DC will join as administrator of the school on Monday and school will open on normal basis,” an official spokesperson said on Sunday. The DC will later interact with the media persons at his office in mini secretariat in the afternoon.

The school was closed on September 8 after an eight-year-old boy was murdered in a school toilet in the morning. The police had arrested 42-year-old bus conductor Ashok Kumar in the evening on charges of murder. Provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) were also added later. Two officials of Ryan management were also arrested later and booked under section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

“We are opening the school after sanitising the area and ensuring that everything is normal”, said Vinay Pratap Singh, DC Gurgaon.

Singh will administer the school for three months. The district administration would look after non-academic affairs like functioning and monitoring of CCTV cameras, transport safety policy, clear view inside the classroom through windows, toilet not be used by the support staff members, security, and staff verification.

The faculty of the school will remain the same and the operations would not be affected, said the spokesperson.

Singh also held a meeting on Saturday with officials of private schools regarding safety and infrastructure matters.

Presence in the school is expected to be thin on Monday as several parents are adopting wait and watch policy for two to three days from opening of the school.

The Haryana government on Sunday also made it mandatory for all government and private school to install CCTV cameras covering entire premises, to constitute safety committees, ensure safe to and fro transportation facility for students and take steps in generating awareness among the students’ on good touch and bad touch as well as internet hazards.
