The parents and neighbours of a 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted by two male nurses of a private hospital last month, protested in front of the hospital on Sunday demanding its shutdown.

Though both the nurses were arrested on November 27 after the girl’s mother had filed a complaint at the Sector 14 police station, the parents, however, demanded the cancellation of the registration of Shiva Hospital, which is situated on Sector 12 road in Acharya Puri of Gurgaon.
“It can happen with any girl or woman patient. The hospital is responsible for the action of its staff. My daughter is not able to lead a normal life because of the incident,” the girl’s mother said.
She also pointed out that the hospital management had failed to provide footage of CCTV cameras to the police and alleged that this is also an irresponsible act.
“Action should be taken against the hospital management,” she said.
She alleged that when her daughter was admitted to the hospital, there was no woman staff during the night and the men allegedly molested her.
“My husband was not allowed to go inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) even when my daughter was shouting. This is clear evidence that the hospital is aware of these incidents,” the mother alleged.
Another protester said, “It is just not acceptable how unsafe our children are in hospitals these days. We cannot trust anyone.”
Around 2.30 pm, more than 20 people gathered outside the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital management.
The police were called to the spot and an officer tried to talk to the agitated neighbours and parents to control the situation.
Subinspector Aman Singh, officiating SHO of Sector 14 police station, said, “We have already given a report to the chief medical officer regarding the findings and have arrested the accused. We can take action against the hospital management only after we are directed by the health department.”
The victim was admitted to the hospital on November 16 as she had mistakenly drunk from a bottle of insecticide.
Both the accused allegedly touched the victim inappropriately, removed her clothes and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident, while she was at the ICU in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the hospital administration said that they are cooperating with the police in the investigation.
“We are taking all precautions in the hospital after that incident. We have provided all information to the police regarding the case. We have not received any further complaint regarding the matter,” Amit Dagar, managing director, Shiva Hospital, said.
