NPR evictees stage protest in Gurgaon, threaten to move court

Despite assurances from the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) administrator, Northern Peripheral Road (NPR) or Dwarka Expressway oustees on Wednesday held a protest over delay in allotment of alternative plots to them. The protest was held at the authority office in Sector 14.

The oustees alleged that despite assurances, the Huda has failed to allot alternative plots to them as per the Punjab and Haryana high court-ordered settlement announced around a year ago.

Newly appointed Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav asked the oustees to give him three months to resolve their issues. The protesters, however, are not ready to wait any more. They now plan to serve a legal notice to the Huda for failing to allot plots to them within six months, as stipulated in the settlement.

Rishi Raj Rana, councillor of Ward No 1, who was also present at the protest, said the oustees have been assured by Huda that alternative plots will be allotted to them within three months, but they will not wait for so long.

“They will wait till mid-July and then file a contempt petition with the Punjab and Haryana high court,” he said.

The oustees also said that they will not accept plots in Sector 37C as it is very far from their current location. This demand was accepted by the court and they will be allotted plots in Sector 110A.

Delay in allotment of plots to the NPR oustees in New Palam Vihar and Kherki Daula means that there will be a delay in the completion of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The delay in completion of the road has caused a slowdown in the real estate market as buyers are not ready to invest in the area due to lack of facilities.

Huda officials, meanwhile, said they will try their best to resolve the issues but if someone approaches court in betwen, the process gets derailed.

Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said, “I met the oustees and assured them that they will be allotted plots in the next three months. I will discuss the issue tomorrow. The matter is under consideration at the highest level in the government and will be resolved soon.”
