A nilgai that was injured in an accident inside the Suncity Township was operated upon on Thursday. The doctors had to amputate the front limb of the animal.

Residents of Suncity Township in Sector 54 had rescued a nilgai on Wednesday. The animal was injured after it was hit by a vehicle.
The animal is recovering in a veterinary hospital, which is run by People For Animals (PFA), an NGO, said an animal welfare activist.
“The nilgai is admitted to the PFA hospital, which is located in Sadhrana village. Its condition is improving and doctors are looking after it. Soon, it will be trained to walk on three legs,” said Sangeeta Luthar, an activist, who is also a resident of Suncity Township.
According to residents, since the township is closely located along the Aravallis, nilgai groups usually cross over into their area.
“The nilgai was in a bad condition. It was covered with blood. We immediately informed the animal welfare group regarding the situation. The nilgai was given water and food but it refused to eat or drink anything,” said VMK Singh, RWA general secretary.
According to the hospital staff, the animal is only four months old and its condition is now stable.
“We operated on the animal as soon as we received it in our centre. Currently, it is depressed but the good news is that it’s recovering and soon we will send it to stay with nilgai groups so it can lead a normal life,” said a hospital staff member.
While speaking to HT, animal rights activists said that there was an urgent need to preserve forest areas. “The only solution is that we relocate the animals to greener zones and re-connect the forest areas in the state. Also, there is an urgent need for wildlife corridors,” said Amita Singh, a member of Walk for Animals and Habitats (WAH), an NGO.
