The party extended support to independent candidates with Congress background on Sunday after the party high command had turned down the proposal of the Haryana leaders to contest MCG elections on party symbol.

“I am sad and party workers are sad that we could not contest on party symbol. But we will ensure that Rewari municipal elections are held on party symbol”, said Capt (retd) Ajay Singh Yadav, former Congress minister, after announcing the party support to independent candidates.

Yadav said the BJP leaders have included all Congress projects as their achievements in the manifesto.

“All the projects highlighted by the BJP leaders are works taken up during the Congress regime. Law and order is deteriorating, there is shortage of water and electricity, roads are sorely lacking and inflation is on the rise,” Yadav said.

He said Congress would work on introducing mohalla dispensaries, providing rapid transport from Gurgaon to Bawal and improving civic amenities.

Yadav said that although the Gurugram metropolitan development authority has been formed, it has yet to function in earnest. “If a Congress-backed mayor is elected, we will work to make GMDA functional,” Yadav said.

Countering Yadav’s allegations, Haryana BJP spokesperson Raman Malik said the opposition is disturbed over the public support for the BJP and are making baseless allegations.

Congress extended support to Parveen Yadav in ward 4, Naresh Sehrawat in ward 6, Promilla Kablana in ward 9, Seema Pahuja in ward 15, Rajni Sahni in ward 17, Pardeep Jaildar in ward 28, Alka Dalal in ward 29, Anju Sharma in ward 32, Jagmohan in ward 34 and Pushpa Sunder Singh in ward 35.
