Lok Adalat, a lesser-known alternative dispute resolution mechanism held on the second Saturday of every month, has been helping in bringing down pendency in court cases, the officials said.
On Saturday, Lok Adalats were organised under the guidance of chief judicial magistrate and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Narender Kumar. They were organised at Gurugram district court, Pataudi court and Sohna court, and were presided over by sessions judges, additional sessions judges and magistrates, along with associate members.
All types of pre-litigative and pending cases, especially criminal compoundable cases, labour disputes, cases under Negotiable Instruments Act , bank recovery cases, cases under Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, and matters that can be settled were taken up at the Lok Adalats. For these cases, Lok Adalat constituted eight benches at Gurugram district court and one each at Pataudi and Sohna courts.
The cleared cases pertaining to the different jurisdictions involved a settlement amount of around ₹11.9 crore, Kumar said, adding, “We invited law college students as well.”
